Your Guide To Fall Wardrobe Basics
BY Natalie Lynn Borton
Now that fall is officially here, it’s time to exchange our summer sundresses and shorts for cozy knits and boots. Though it can sometimes feel daunting to pull together a wardrobe for each new season, it doesn’t have to be that way. Below are several fall wardrobe basics to help you build the foundation of your autumn attire. The items listed below can be found at all price points, leaving you flexibility with your budget to still be able to buy trendy accessories for the season.
A Good Pair of Jeans
Bootcut styles are versatile and comfortable, while also creating a sexy silhouette—they are a staple cut everyone should have in their wardrobe. Try pairing yours with wedges, and a button down for a classic-chic look.
Black Leggings
Much like jeans, black leggings can be mixed and matched with so many things. Try yours tucked into a pair of boots with a tank, a long cardigan—and perhaps even a scarf if it’s chilly enough.
Button Down Shirt
Nothing is quite as classic as the white button down shirt. The style below has some ruffle and tuxedo details to add some interest, but still retains the classic look and feel that mixes well with anything.
Neutral Boots
Ask anyone what their must-have fall staple is, and 90% of them will tell you “boots!” Tall boots work best without a lot of fabric tucked inside, so make sure you wear them with your skinniest denim or leggings for a clean look.
Cozy Sweater
Try a chunky knit worn alone, or pair over a button down shirt for a layered effect that’s both cozy and stylish.
Blazer
A blazer is one of the easiest ways to take your summer clothing into fall. Simply toss it on over your favorite tank paired with bootcut jeans and a fun scarf.
Animal Print Flats
Animal print doesn’t always go in the basic category, but when it comes to flats, you can play them as a neutral. Both chic and comfortable, they’re perfect for wearing around the office or walking around town with friends.
Statement Pieces
Once you’ve created a base wardrobe, you can then cultivate a growing collection of bold accessories to keep your outfits fresh, fun and personalized. Jewelry, scarves, hats and belts can change with every season and trend, making them the easiest and most cost-effective way to keep your wardrobe interesting.
