In the spirit of The Conversation we welcome all opinions and experiences. Amanda is close friends with Nahdi and asked her to share her personal journey and discovery of what it means to heal. We are not endorsing any practices, doctors or treatments included in her story.

My name is Nahdi. This is a story of self realization and the survival of Breast Cancer. Everyone has a story or a perception of his or her reality. This is my story here and now. I’m a Yoga teacher in NYC, hustling, doing my service to humanity. I study and am inspired by the Bhakti Yoga tradition, The Yoga of Devotion to the Supreme. I write, record and perform music as well as sing and consider myself a “Hare Krsna.” My inclinations are more toward writing hip hop music and I have an eclectic taste in dub step and dance music. I’ve danced my entire life and in my younger days found much satisfaction in teaching dance in under privileged psychiatric facilities. With a unique flavor, I love fashion and have designed a most recent jewelry line based in power of Maha Mantra. I’m young, fairly, 33 years but have the energy of a 20 year old.

So how the hell did I get cancer?! One would assume that with my lifestyle I would be an unlikely candidate for cancer. This is because the current paradigm addresses cancer as an unnatural, invasive disease which has to be eliminated by any means. On Sept. 19, I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma- 1cm in size. I’m a vegetarian, active Yogi doing my best to love life and simply serve as a true healer to our suffering civilization.

This to me friends, is a wake up call to truly heal myself before I can heal others. Walk with me, on this journey of discovering the essence of health and well being? Before going gung-ho with conventional medicine’s solution for my having detected a lump in my breast, I thought I would do some research. What I found was both shocking and empowering: the cause of what conventional medicine calls a “disease” is emotional distress and trauma. German New Medicine has thoroughly documented the direct relationship between the psyche and what are known as cancerous tumors.

It turns out that what conventional medicine most times diagnoses as “cancer” is actually the body healing from specific traumatic conflicts. The traumatic experience must be reconciled and put to rest within the patients mind before any supportive treatment can truly take its effect. I found this tumor four months ago and with serious research, I intuitively knew how it was created. My father died suddenly in a motorcycle accident in Oct. of 2010, one of many traumatic experiences in my life. I have met with oncologists and surgeons and still am not in the least bit convinced that cutting into my body and administering radiation and/or chemotherapy is the cure for this Natural Biological System we call cancer. I am determined to be living proof that we can lift this veil together and de-mystify cancer once and for all. Who’s with me?
