7 Ways To Connect To Your Authentic Self

Here are some simple ways to empower yourself that are based on the 7 energy centers in the body known as the chakras. Our chakras, which run parallel to the spine, can be a useful guide to balancing the many different aspects of personality and lead us to a more authentic, connected Self.

1st Chakra: Our connection to our environment
Without this, we are just floating in space! While the law of gravity keeps our bodies earth-bound, other parts of us may not be. Try sitting still for 2 minutes outside and simply notice as many things as possible, the shape, color and quality of a leaf, a cloud or a blade of grass. Ground your feet while you do it and this will get you into a trusting relationship with the earth and bring the busy mind into stillness.

2nd Chakra: Creativity
Get your creative juices flowing! Take yourself on a date. Pick anything that appeals to you and spend 2 to 3 hours by yourself just for you. Part of the second chakra’s make-up is pleasure, so indulge yourself, it could be a museum or a beauty spa, do something that feeds your soul and is just for you.

3rd Chakra: Empowerment
Using your personal power today to make other’s feel empowered, will ultimately raise your own vibration. Make a conscious decision that all those who cross your path, you will support either verbally or non-verbally with an affirmation, ‘’May you receive all that you desire and wish for today.” And then watch how the universe arises to meet your needs.

4th Chakra: Love & Compassion
Practice listening. The next conversation you enter see how much listening you can do and watch how many times the impulse arises to interrupt that person with your own point of view or something from your life. Simply hold space for other person without needing anything in return.

5th Chakra: Voice it
Sing! Everyone can sing. OK, so you’re not going to win a Grammy, but put a song on that you love, and open those pipes up and sing.  It’s incredible how much of our voice is used to defend ourselves, or to give others instructions. Use it just as an instrument of joy and play to lighten up!

6th Chakra-Quiet your mind
Sit upright, (don’t lie down or you’ll fall asleep), close your eyes and watch the rise and fall of your chest as you breathe. Try it for 2 minutes. Stopping the flow of information coming to us from the outside and halting the inner processing is essential to creating an authentic life.

7th Chakra-Beliefs
Einstein said, “The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.” Take stock on who or what you’re making the ‘enemy’ and stop. It’s a waste of energy and does nothing to improve your quality of life or well-being and will eventually make you sick.  Work on some internal forgiveness for those who’ve done you wrong, wish them well and move on.

If you find yourself watching a lot of political news, turn it off, as it will drive you to the madhouse. Instead use that energy to work on improving things in your neighborhood and reinforcing the belief that one person can make a difference.
